Sharon retired in 2020 after working in social care for over forty years; first as a Home Help for the elderly, then in a resident home for adults with learning needs and very briefly with adults with mental health problems. Sharon then qualified as a social worker and went on to work in a residential children’s home, before moving to be a social worker in the Adolescent Team, and then working with Care Leavers. Sharon also ran a youth club in East Oxford on Friday from 1983 to 1995 which in its heyday had over 100 young people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures attending. Sharon is a member of John Bunyan Baptist Church and became a trustee for Ark T because of her passion for working with young people.
